Once a year, the waters surrounding Nusa Penida become completely quiet.
This tradition is called Nyepi Laut, or Nyepi Segara, a special day dedicated to honoring the sea and its importance to the island community.
In 2026, Nyepi Laut will take place from 6:00 AM on Sunday, 27 September until 6:00 AM on Monday, 28 September.
During this 24-hour period, marine activities around Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, and Nusa Ceningan are suspended. Fast boats, fishing, snorkeling, diving, and other activities at sea will not operate.
For travelers, it is a rare opportunity to experience a quieter side of Nusa Penida. Guests can spend the day exploring the island by land, relaxing at their accommodation, enjoying local food, or simply appreciating the peaceful atmosphere.
